What the dive is like

El Peñón lies heeled roughly 30 degrees to starboard. The descent reveals the wreck as an artificial reef rather than a bare structure, with fish moving around the hull and growth developing on its surfaces.

The official island guide describes a 35 metre vessel, while a current local operator describes a 30 metre tug. Both place the deepest part at about 32 metres. MolaQuest records the length difference rather than choosing an unsupported single value.

Experience and planning

This is best treated as a depth-aware wreck dive, not as a universal beginner site. Divers should have recent experience at the planned depth, reliable buoyancy and a suitable gas plan. A certification card alone does not establish suitability.

The entry is from shore and the wreck is a short swim from the coast. Exact entry conditions and the appropriate route must be confirmed with a local centre on the day. Penetration is a separate activity requiring specific training, equipment and planning.

Practical notes

Plan the dive properly

  • Confirm the entry, exit, sea state and route with a local centre.
  • Agree the maximum depth and gas plan before entering.
  • Do not enter overhead areas without the relevant training and equipment.
  • The stored coordinate is an approximate wreck position and should not be used for navigation.
  • The hero image represents Canary Islands shore diving and does not depict El Peñón.
